Off-grid & Grid-tied:

What can it run?
Solar electric systems can be sized to provide power for almost any requirement. Small systems consisting of a single solar module are widely used for simple applications such as lighting a cabin or shed. Larger systems power entire homes.

How do I determine how big a system I need?

The size of system depends on the amount of electricity you will be consuming. For each electrical load that you will be powering, find the rated watts or amps from the manufacturer’s label. Utilize our system sizing worksheet to determine your total required energy.

What is a “grid-tied” system?

The term grid-tied refers to the direct connection of a solar electric generator to the utility grid. Unless the option of backup power in included, there are no batteries involved. All electricity generated by the system is used immediately, rather than being stored.

Can my system turn my hydro meter backwards?

Yes. If your grid-tied solar generating system is producing more electricity than you are using, the excess will flow “backwards” through your electrical meter and out to the utility grid.

How much maintenance is involved?
Solar electric systems require extremely low maintenance. In most systems, the batteries are the only component requiring regular maintenance. Even so, the time spent to look after batteries will amount to only a few hours per year.

Can I install it myself?
With a minimum amount of electrical knowledge, small systems such as for a cabin or small cottage may be user installed. Generally however, an experienced solar electric system technician or an electrician should be involved. Many solar electric systems produce the same electricity that comes into an ordinary house, and it can be every bit as lethal if electrical safety is not observed.

The solar modules are outside, are they fragile?
A top quality solar electric module, such as the Siemens product, has been proven over decades to withstand the EarthÕs harshest environments, from the Arctic to desert.

Are there certifications or standards in place?
All components of solar electric systems are available that conform to recognized safety and certification standards. Most systems are now easily approved under the guidelines of national electrical codes.

Solar Security Systems:

What are solar security systems?
This is our line of products that offer the benefits of traditional electronic security surveillance and protection, but they operate without connection to an external power source.

What type of security can I get?

Phantom manufactures equipment and systems for video surveillance, intrusion detection and environmental monitoring and control.

Where would I use these products?

Protection from theft at cottages, trailers and construction sites. Surveillance of activity at ski hills, golf courses, parking lots etc. Monitoring for temperature and water levels.

Can these systems summon for help?
Yes. Our systems incorporate built-in radio based communications allowing them to call-out and "speak" electronically with a central monitoring station.

Can I install it myself?

Our solar security products are industrial systems that would usually be provided and installed by contractors with the appropriate experience and technical knowledge.
